Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as important members in the powerful family could help the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Planners parties.
Fans can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
