Nigel Farage Accuses Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “harming young minds” by telling students that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his viewpoint on British schools, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike very quickly after securing a victory,” he remarked in response to questions.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They inform an eight-year-old black child that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to these assertions, Daniel Kebede dismissed the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. He pointed out that any strikes must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his political career on dog-whistle politics and currently, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a fight,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, including education … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
The party, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, Farage’s remarks indicated the party would overhaul the educational framework. He said: “We have got a massive job with schooling – truly monumental. And, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, he commented: “All I want education to do to teach critical thinking – to instruct people that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind as opposed to current practices where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in recent years caused widespread disruption in educational institutions and millions of days of lost learning for students.
At the US event, Farage also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He stated such groups were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I am serious. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of young people to your online courses. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”
The institution, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of freedom. It offers these beautiful courses for free to all who wish to learn.”
