Paceman Atkinson Adds to the English team's Injury Problems.

'Significant concern' for the English camp as Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson added to England's injury problems when he left the field on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

The pace bowler pulled up with his hamstring after the final ball in his spell during the morning session.

The England team stated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and required time off the field to undergo evaluation "during the day".

The series decider in this Ashes battle in Sydney begins on Sunday, 4 January.

England have already lost fast bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman with an abdominal strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was brought into the squad to provide backup.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the Melbourne Test as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs while batting being one of only three English batsmen to get into double digits.

Post a single over late on the first day, he resumed the next day and removed Scott Boland edging to the keeper.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of that over, he sent down a change of pace to Travis Head and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the Boxing Day Test following his omission the Adelaide game.
