Sir Humphrey Burton, a towering figure in arts broadcasting, has died at the age of 94.
His death occurred at his home, in the company of his family.

Hailing from Trowbridge in 1931, he established himself as a cherished figure who demystified classical music for a vast audience.
His tenure as the BBC's head of music and arts in the sixties and seventies was marked by award-winning work, including the programme The Golden Ring.
He also founded the Young Musician of the Year competition in 1978, a showcase that uncovered soloists such as violinist Nicola Benedetti.
