The network's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its peculiarly charming appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this lovable family go about their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its current layer of irony. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
