The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
